Planning an Andaman holiday: islands, ferries and breathing room
A first-trip planning guide to choosing your island mix, checking ferry connections and keeping your return journey comfortable.

An island holiday is shaped by its connections as much as its beaches. Before choosing activities, decide how many hotel changes and ferry journeys you want. A good Andaman plan makes the travel between islands feel like part of the holiday rather than a race through it.
Know the names you will see
You may see both older and current names while comparing itineraries: Port Blair is now Sri Vijaya Puram, Havelock is Swaraj Dweep, and Neil is Shaheed Dweep. Our catalogue retains the familiar names in package titles so that you can match them to the route you are discussing.
The Andaman tourism department lists government and private ferry connections between Sri Vijaya Puram and Swaraj/Shaheed Dweep and advises reserving the outward and return tickets in advance. Check the actual service and date availability before treating a route as confirmed.

Choose the island mix before adding activities
For a shorter break, compare an itinerary based around Sri Vijaya Puram and Swaraj Dweep with a longer route that also includes Shaheed Dweep. Each additional island means another transfer, check-in and packing cycle. More stops can be worthwhile, but they do not automatically mean more time to relax.
Two catalogue examples make the trade-off easier to see: FIT-AND-01 is a 3-night, 4-day Port Blair & Havelock route; FIT-AND-09 is a 5-night, 6-day route with Port Blair, Havelock and Neil. Compare their night splits and daily plans, then decide which gives your party the pace it wants.

Put ferry details in the written plan
- Confirm the travel date, route, operator, ticket category and the names needed for each traveller.
- Ask whether the quote includes ferry tickets, port transfers and any baggage charges that apply.
- Check reporting time and baggage rules with the operator before departure.
- Keep the return ferry in the plan, not as a task to solve after reaching the island.
- Ask what happens to the itinerary and costs if a sailing changes or is cancelled.
Avoid arranging a tight island-to-airport connection on assumptions. Discuss a buffer, or a final night on the arrival/departure island, against your actual flight and ferry details. This is a planning recommendation, not a guarantee against disruption.
Leave space for the beach and be selective with activities
Decide which activities are essential to you and which would simply be nice if conditions allow. Keep an unhurried block of time in the itinerary instead of trying to add an activity to every free hour.
For any water activity, ask the operator about suitability, safety briefing, equipment, supervision and cancellation conditions. Follow local signage and the directions of authorised staff. Do not assume an optional activity is included in the holiday price or that a beach photograph reflects conditions on your travel date.
What to share when requesting your quotation
- Your arrival and departure dates and, when available, flight details.
- The number of adults and children, plus room and accessibility needs.
- Your preferred island mix and how often you are comfortable changing hotels.
- The hotel category you want and a total trip budget with flights identified separately.
- Any must-do activities, dietary needs and questions about transfers.
Before paying, check accommodation, ferry and transfer inclusions alongside the final total and cancellation terms. Keep the confirmation, ticket details and support contact together. For entry requirements and current local guidance, refer to the tourism department and reconfirm anything relevant to your nationality and dates.
